چکیده

Abstract Aim Smallmouth Bass ( Micropterus dolomieu ; SMB) are globally popular among anglers and have been widely introduced (i.e. stocked) for population management sportfishing. Importantly, stocking was prevalent before cryptic diversity within the SMB complex known, which now includes three newly elevated species: Neosho M. velox NB), Little River sp. cf. River; LRB) Ouachita OB). We sought to quantify structure hybridisation introgression in these recently described species. Location Species‐level diversity, particularly basin‐restricted LRB OB Mountains Central Interior Highlands (CIH), North America, suggests presence of distinct genetic variation that could be eroded by introgression. Methods estimated interspecific intraspecific differentiation species (SMB‐C) using 472 specimens comprising SMB, NB, OB, including naturally sympatric Spotted punctulatus SPB). Genomic samples were genotyped on a SNP panel 192 loci designed detect allele‐sharing multiple hierarchical levels. Results found low range‐wide between SMB‐C SPB (mostly backcrosses), heterozygosity varied, indicating differential Range‐wide CIH similar overall (but mostly F 2 backcrosses) observed streams with known connected reservoirs. Interspecific hybrids also generally lower, later‐generation backcrosses. strong (LRB Main Conclusions Despite isolated incidences natural (SPB) human‐mediated (SMB) introgression, genomic identity appears intact endemic suggesting potential ecological or behavioural isolating mechanisms preventing cross‐species reproduction. Our findings reveal remains cryptic, ecoregion may managed long‐term conservation.

Investigating phylogenetic relationships of sunfishes and black basses (Actinopterygii: Centrarchidae) using DNA sequences from mitochondrial and nuclear genes.

The 32 species of the Centrarchidae are ecologically important components of the diverse fish communities that characterize North American freshwater ecosystems. In spite of a rich history of systematic investigations of centrarchid fishes there is extensive conflict among previous hypotheses that may be due to restricted taxon or character sampling. We present the first phylogenetic analysis o...

Introgression among California Black Oaks—Dodd, Kashani, and A.-Rafii Population Diversity and Evidence of Introgression Among the Black Oaks of California

The black oaks of California include 4 tree species (California black oak, coast live oak, Shreve oak, interior live oak) that are known to hybridize. Complex patterns of population variation within each species are likely to result from these hybrid combinations and from subsequent introgressions. We have been studying population variation using biochemical and molecular markers and report res...

Stocking Guidelines for the Endemic Hawaiian Hardwood, Acacia Koa

BAKER, P. J. & SCOWCROFT, P. G. 2005. Stocking guidelines for the endemic Hawaiian hardwood, Acacia koa. Stocking relationships are an important tool for foresters because they provide a means for evaluating how effectively the trees in a stand use available growing space. While stocking guidelines are not available for many tropical tree species, readily obtained measurements of stem and crown...

Cold acclimation strategy is highly variable among the sunfishes (Centrarchidae).

We tested the hypothesis that the physiological strategy for acclimating to low body temperature is similar among closely related fish. Largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), green sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus), bluegill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus), black crappie (Pomonix nigromaculatus), and white crappie (Pomonix annularis), all members of the family Centrarchidae, were acclimated to 5 degr...
